Hiring for Creative Director: Seeds of Hope Storytelling

The Episcopal Diocese of West Virginia is hiring a creative director for Seeds of Hope Storytelling, a five-year, grant-funded storytelling program designed to capture and share stories of vibrant faith in West Virginia and among our Appalachian neighbors.
In collaboration with the Canon for Communications & Congregational Development and Seeds of Hope project manager, the creative director will oversee implementation of grant activities including program branding, media production, visionary work for the program’s annual storytelling festival, and grant reporting. The creative director will work closely with the project manager to plan and execute storytelling trainings and events around West Virginia and to promote Seeds of Hope at events, festivals, and conferences.
Duties & Responsibilities
The creative director is the artistic brain behind Seeds of Hope and, in collaboration with diocesan leadership, will oversee creative strategy and decisions for the program. The creative director will:
- Collaborate with diocesan leadership for implementation of grant programming and vision
- Cultivate relationships with artists, storytellers, and other collaborators
- Develop and oversee plan for production of short films, podcasts, and print and digital media
- Implement visionary work for an annual storytelling festival
- Be responsible for budget oversight and grant reporting
- Oversee branding for Seeds of Hope
- Collaborate with the project manager to develop social media strategy
Key Skills & Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have an appreciation for Appalachia and its people and be committed to sharing our stories with dignity and respect.
The ideal candidate should have an educational background and/or professional experience in communications or media production, including a working knowledge of creative software, audio/visual and video production equipment and software, web design, and social media. The candidate must also possess a keen aesthetic sense, a strong attention to detail, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and an ability to work collaboratively while also being a self-starter.
A familiarity with The Episcopal Church, or a willingness to learn, is essential.
Work Environment
Seeds of Hope is based out of the offices of The Episcopal Diocese of West Virginia in Charleston, West Virginia, but remote work from within West Virginia or nearby is negotiable.
The creative director will be expected to travel throughout West Virginia for storytelling trainings and events, promotional events, and cultivation of relationships. Occasional travel outside of West Virginia will be required. The creative director must hold a valid driver’s license and have reliable transportation.
Direct Report: Canon for Communications & Congregational Development
Employment Classification: Full-time, Exempt
Salary: $70,000+
